I am writing a draft of this post as I sit on the plane to Amsterdam. My trip has a stop there once we get across the Atlantic and then I have another flight to Barcelona. I’m writing this because I can’t sleep.

I don’t know why this is such a pain. Usually after a while, not matter how difficult the position, I end up falling asleep. Yet here I am at 2:15am writing a blog post because I finally gave up on sleep. I decided there’s no point in tossing (and being incapable of turning) with no results. If I can’t sleep then I will just be awake.

There is a family sitting near me that is speaking some language I’ve never heard. Parts of it sound sort of Italian but then other parts I swear must be Germanic. Since there are so many connecting flights out of Amsterdam, they could be from anywhere. Well, that’s my little anecdote for you – the most interesting thing on this transcontinental flight.

I might write a second part to this during my flight to Spain or just post it as soon as I find wifi. Who knows, but I’ll keep you updated. If something on the site isn’t working, email me and I’ll try (probably to no avail) to fix it, or if you don’t know how to do something, or if you miss me, that’s fine too.

They really need to get working on an old fashioned train bunkbed model for these planes. With two or three levels I’m sure you could fit as many people. Plus, you might say “but I want a chair!” but think about it, would you rather have to prop yourself up to read that droll business report in a bed AND have a place to sleep, or a chair that is good for a couple of hours until it converts into an inhumane torture capsule for the rest of the trip when you feel like resting?
- oh the seatbelt sign? You can strap yourself in bed… Or just pad the cieling above you!

I know, trips to Spain for the summer are such a pain aren’t they? I’m sure you’re glad you’re not me! /sarcasm

Update: a baby started crying. Awesome. No wonder they charge you for alcohol on that little cart.

——-
The second flight was better and the airport in amsterdam was quite nice. I had some great coffee and some sort of panini with lochs. Yum!

Once I arrived it took lots of directions from strangers on street corners, but I arrived at my homestay in some part of Barcelona. Just as it was when I was in CR, there is a lot of local geography to get used to. I don’t know the names or orientation of the barrios or anything :/ I’ll get it in a week or so maybe.
